Heard of MCT oil? Wondering what it's all about? MCT oil is found in coconut oil which has helped catapult it to glory these past few years. Popular amongst body builders and athletes, it has plenty of health benefits from boosting brain power to helping candida growth. We've got more on MCT oil benefits and how to use it below.
What is MCT oil?
MCT Oil is a supplement that contains medium-chain triglycerides. This is a type of fat found in the likes of coconut oil which has many health benefits. Due to their shorter length, MCTs can be more easily digested than fats with long-chain triglycerides (LCT) found in most other foods. Read on for MCT oil benefits plus how to use it.
MCT Oil Benefits
Medium Chain Triglyceride (MCT) oil has many benefits and uses. It is an extremely efficient energy source. Our body does not need to break it down, as a result it enters the liver rapidly and produces a direct natural source of ketones (ketones are a form of fuel that the body uses as an alternative to glucose).
- Ketones have the ability to cross the blood brain barrier, to provide an instant source of fuel to your brain. This can help to improve mental clarity and energy. The calories within MCT oil are more readily used for fuel by the body. Therefore they are less likely to be stored as body fat.
- MCT oil has also been shown to help improve blood sugar levels.
- MCT oil is coconut derived and contains C8 (Caprilic acid) and C10 (Capric acid). C8 and C10 which have antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties.
- C10 can greatly help with Candida overgrowth.
How to Use MCT Oil
Wondering how to use MCT oil? The most popular method is to add 1 tablespoon to black coffee. You can also try using it as a salad dressing, adding to smoothies or blending it with a turmeric drink as the oil can increase the absorption of the turmeric. As it is an oil, it is not recommend for use in frying/cooking.
Here in Evergreen we love the One Nutrition brand as they have sourced organic ingredients and they use dark glass bottle packaging to protect the oil. Why not also check out Nature's Aid for a great selection and different flavours.
