What is Vitamin C?

Vitamin C - also known as ascorbic acid - is a water-soluble vitamin responsible for many essential functions in the body.  Although best known for supporting immune health, vitamin C plays a vital role in growing and repairing tissues, bones and teeth. It also makes collagen, which is needed for healthy skin, cartilage, and ligaments. Vitamin C is also an excellent antioxidant which helps reduce damage caused by free radicles in the body. These free radicles are partly responsible for the ageing process and some diseases.

What are good sources of Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is present in many fruits and vegetables, however it is very sensitive to light, air and heat, so you'll get the most vitamin C from fruits and vegetables which are raw or lightly cooked. If enough vitamin C is not consumed with the diet alone deficiency may occur and supplementation may be necessary.
