Planning for pregnancy and pregnancy itself can bring changing nutritional needs. At Evergreen, you can explore a range of pregnancy and fertility supplements, including prenatal vitamins, preconception formulas and individual nutrients commonly considered before and during pregnancy.
Our range includes options for different stages, from trying to conceive and preconception support through to pregnancy and postnatal wellbeing.
Preconception vitamins and fertility supplements
If you are trying to conceive, you may be looking at your overall diet and whether there are particular nutrients you should pay closer attention to.
Our preconception and fertility supplements include multinutrient formulas alongside individual nutrients and specialist products designed for this stage of life.
Folic acid is particularly important before conception and during early pregnancy. Women who may become pregnant are advised to take a daily folic acid supplement before pregnancy and during the early weeks of pregnancy, alongside a balanced diet.
Prenatal vitamins
Prenatal vitamins are multivitamin and mineral supplements designed specifically for use around pregnancy.
Formulas vary, so it is worth comparing individual products rather than assuming all prenatal supplements are the same. Depending on the product, they may contain nutrients such as folic acid or folate, vitamin D, iron, iodine and other vitamins and minerals.
Always follow the individual product directions and speak to your GP, midwife or pharmacist if you are unsure which supplement is appropriate for you.
Pregnancy vitamins and supplements
During pregnancy, nutritional requirements change and certain nutrients become particularly important.
A balanced diet remains the foundation of good nutrition, but supplements may be recommended to help meet specific needs. Vitamin D and folic acid are two nutrients commonly discussed in pregnancy guidance, while some people may be advised to take other nutrients depending on their individual circumstances.
Because pregnancy supplements can contain different combinations and amounts of nutrients, avoid taking several products together without checking whether their ingredients overlap.
Omega-3 and DHA during pregnancy
Some pregnancy ranges also include omega-3 supplements containing DHA.
DHA contributes to the normal brain and eye development of the foetus when the maternal intake provides 200mg DHA per day in addition to the recommended daily intake of 250mg DHA and EPA for adults.
If you are considering an omega-3 supplement during pregnancy, choose a product specifically suitable for pregnancy and follow the recommended dose.
Choosing a pregnancy or fertility supplement
There is no single supplement that will suit everyone. When comparing products, consider:
- the stage you are at — preconception, pregnancy or postnatal;
- the nutrients included;
- the amounts provided per serving;
- whether you are already taking other supplements;
- format and dietary preferences.
Pregnancy is also one area where personalised advice matters. If you are pregnant, trying to conceive, taking medication or have an existing health condition, speak to your GP, midwife, pharmacist or dietitian before starting a new supplement.
