Evergreen Guide To Foot Care

June 11, 2018

After a long winter hiding away under tights, woolly socks and layers galore (and neglect), it can be daunting getting the feet out. From cracked heels and super dry skin, your feet and toes are probably a bit worse for wear and going to need a little bit of TLC before you slip them in those sandals.

But worry not. There are some simple steps you can take to get them prepped and in great shape. Here's how to get your feet summer ready so you feel happy in your sandals...

How to Get Your Feet Summer Ready

Looking to get your feet summer ready? Follow these easy steps for fabulous feet just in time for sandals season!

1. Take a Foot Bath

A foot bath can be super relaxing. And it has some great benefits too! Take some time out - two or even three times a week - for a foot bath. Soaking your feet in a basin of warm water can be very relaxing for tired, heavy legs. But it's also great to soften any hard, calloused and dry skin on the feet. You could follow up with Weleda Foot Balm which is perfect for foot massages.

2. Moisturise!

For those of us with a tendency towards dry skin, be sure to moisturise your feet well daily. Our feet have been stuck in winter boots for way too long this year and the skin can be hardened and dry so it’s important to moisturise the skin on your feet to help them get ready for summer. Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Cream is super hydrating has a gorgeous, tropical coconut scent. You could also try Lavera Basis Sensitiv Foot Cream.

3. Get on Top of Sweating

With the recent spike in temperature all over the country, we’re rooting out the summer wardrobe and opting for shorts and sandals and the like (check out some handy tips for staying safe in the sun). However, warmer days means we're sweating more and this can play havoc with our foot hygiene, leading to soggy socks and an increase in odour. If you're prone to sweaty feet, add the likes of Actifresh Foot Spray or Mindful Beauty Natural Foot Powder into your daily routine. They help to reducing foot odour and irritation in our shoes during the hotter weather so you're more comfortable.

4. Look After Your Nails

So if you're wondering how to get your feet summer ready, you definitely need to give your toenails some TLC. Most of us reach for the nail polish to give them a pop of colour and that's that. However, you need to make sure the nail is in good shape too.

Now is the time to give the nails a file and trim and look after the cuticles (apply a cuticle oil to push back and soften dead skin). If you suffer from brittle nails, it can be tempting to lash on the nail varnish to hide the toenails. But it won't do your nails any good. Instead, why not try using Jason Purifying Tea Tree Nail Saver. It uses tea tree oil, known for its natural antibacterial and antiseptic properties to help you to achieve healthy nails.

4. Banish Warts & Veruccas

Even the softest, smoothest, prettily-painted feet are still going to look unsightly with the presence of warts or veruccas. Both are small lumps that form on the skin causing it to thicken. Highly contagious, they are both caused by the HPV virus. Get a handle on any errant veruccas or warts naturally with Actifreeze Verucca & Wart Remover. It administers a cold shock freezing treatment and is suitable for both adults and children.
