Winter is a funny time for skin health as we move from the bitter cold outdoors to the warmth of the fire indoors.
These sudden changes in temperature can play havoc with our skin, so Somega teamed up with expert facialist Sherna Malone for her top tips for healthier, glowing skin this winter and beyond.
What Is Your Top Tip For Banishing Dull Winter Skin?
You have probably already noticed that skin responds differently to the changing seasons, and in particular Winter. Cold air and central heating can zap your skin of moisture, leaving your skin looking a lot less radiant than normal; think dull, lack lustre, tired-looking skin.
Thankfully, I have a few tricks to banish that dullness and keep skin looking healthy:
- Look for serums and moisturisers with brightening skincare ingredients such as Vitamin C, Niacinamide, and Lactic Acid. Used daily, these star brighteners can give skin a lit-from-within look over time.
- Think about a humidifier for your bedroom when you sleep. These help to add moisture back into the air, which can be especially helpful when indoor heating is cranked up in the winter months. Having more moisture in the air can help act as a natural moisturising agent which, in turn, may prevent and relieve skin dryness.
- Lastly, exfoliation, which helps remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, helping keep your skin looking smooth and vibrant. One caveat! Don’t over exfoliate! And make sure you are using the right products for your skin type. Over exfoliating is likely to break down your skin’s moisture barrier leading to more dryness and irritation.
What Is Your One Skin “NO NO”?
Don’t stop using SPF in winter!! You should wear sunscreen every day because when you are outside, you are constantly being exposed to UV radiation. UV radiation even penetrates through the clouds, glass, and the car windows so yes yes yes, you should even be putting on your sunscreen 365 days a year no matter what the weather. If you don’t do so, you’re going to accumulate damage in the skin.

What Are The Benefits Of Looking After Your Skin From Within?
In the words of Dr. Howard Murad “Healthy skin is a reflection of overall wellness.” Treat your skin kindly and focus on what you put on your plate to nourish your skin from the inside out. Food is one of the most powerful tools you have at your fingertips, so optimise your nutrition by including a variety of antioxidant-rich fruit, vegetables, vitamins, and healthy fats into your daily diet. Take blueberries for example, they are bursting with antioxidants, phytoflavinoids and vitamin C which are super for keeping your skin healthy and glowing. I always advise taking a holistic 360 approach. Good nutrition, getting enough sleep, reducing stress etc., and the right skincare and facial treatments will all contribute to achieving healthy beautiful skin.
The One Supplement You Or Your Skin Would Not Be Without?
Without doubt my SOMEGA Liposomal Vitamin C for many reasons. It supports my immune system and helps with my energy levels. It is a powerful antioxidant that protects cells and strengthens the body’s natural defences. It can help fend off the signs of ageing because of its role in collagen synthesis. It’s my go to every morning and knowing that I am obtaining the maximum health benefits thanks to its clinically proven liposomal delivery system makes me and my skin very happy.
