What is Potassium?
Potassium is a very important mineral needed for the correct function of a number of cells, tissues and organs. Potassium also plays an important role in heart and skeletal health and muscle contraction, making it very important for normal digestive and muscular functions.
What are good sources of Potassium?
Potassium has a number of food sources, most notably bananas, but meats, legumes and many fruits and vegetables are also excellent sources. Many factors influence how effectively potassium is absorbed by the body. If too much sodium is present in the diet, which is very common in the Western diet, potassium absorption can be affected. Diarrhoea and vomiting can also have a negative effect on potassium absorption.
