Certification : Soil Association Organic
The Soil Association is a charity working with everyone to transform the way we eat, farm and care for our natural world. They have the goal of joining forces with nature for a better future, for a world with good health, in balance with nature, and a safe climate.
Formed over 75 years ago, the Soil Association has worked with everyone to transform the way we eat, farm, and care for our natural world. They acquire and maintain farmland sustainably and connect the public with land stewardship as well as educate people about sustainable choices through their Food for Life campaign
They also run the UK’s largest organic certification body - Soil Association Organic
All organic food and drink sold in the EU must meet the EU Organic Regulation - this is shown by the green leaf logo on pack. However, Soil Association certified products must also meet additional higher standards.
For a food product to be labelled as organic, every organisation working up and down its supply chain – from farmers, to packers, to food processors, and organic retailers – have to meet organic standards and prove it to an organic certification body.
This process is designed to ensure that organic food is food you can trust.
As well as certifying food, the Soil Association has also created an international standard for the beauty and wellbeing industry - COSMOS.
COSMOS is guided by four core principles:
- Promoting the use of products from organic agriculture, and respecting biodiversity.
- Using natural resources responsibly, and respecting the environment.
- Using processing and manufacturing that are clean and respectful of human health and the environment.
- Integrating and developing the concept of green chemistry
