'Superfoods' is a term that we hear so much in the world of nutrition in recent times. More often than not, they're unusual looking, brightly coloured fruits, vegetables, nuts or seeds coming from exotic far off lands. In truth - every fruit, vegetable, nut and seed is a superfood in their own right as they have the ability to nourish our bodies and provide us with energy and a huge variety of nutrients. But there are some that are packed with nutrients and reign supreme. If you're in need of a nutritional boost, here are 5 superfoods you can easily add to your det.

What Are Superfoods?

A superfood is a nutrient rich food which is seen to be beneficial to health and well-being. They can play a great role in having a healthy diet and a healthy eating plan.

5 Superfoods You Can Easily to Add to Your Diet

There are lots of superfoods out there and they're all great in their own way, so how do you decide which ones should grace your shopping basket?

There are a few superfoods which have been studied for their added benefits; nutrient density, high antioxidant load and phytonutrients that have hugely positive effects on the functioning of our bodies. We've gathered 5 of these superfoods we think you should know about.

These 5 superfoods are loaded full of nutrients and importantly are easy to work in to your diet. Here are 5 of the best superfoods you can easily add to your diet.

Goji Berries

These berries are delicious and full of vitamins, proteins, antioxidants and amino acids. Goji berries are extremely nutrient dense and this is why they're one of our favourite superfoods - they contain the highest concentration of protein of any other fruit, are loaded with vitamin C, have twenty-one trace minerals and are high in fibre. They also boast 15 times the amount of iron found in spinach, as well as calcium, zinc, selenium and many other important trace minerals.

Sweet and chewy, they can add a sweet yet sugar free taste to porridge, cereals, salads or smoothies and yoghurt to create some added benefits. Top tip: soak them in water and have a juicy snack.

Chia Seeds

Another of the superfoods you can easily add to your diet is chia seeds. This ancient food has been used in the past as an endurance food due to all of its nutritional benefits. It has five times more calcium than milk, is packed full of fibre (a whopping 10 grams in only 2 tablespoons) and has high levels of the essential fatty acid, Omega 3 (over 60% making them one of the richest plant based sources). Chia is also a natural mood booster.

These small but mighty seeds are also an antioxidant powerhouse which can help prevent free radical damage. Enjoy chia seeds or milled chia as part of your morning breakfast, add to granola mix or yoghurt, pop in to smoothies or eat as a snack. Chia seeds contain no gluten or grains so can be obtained on a gluten-free diet. Check out a delicious Chia Pudding recipe!

Bee Pollen

This superfood is high in fibre, iron and zinc. It is also full of beneficial vitamins and proteins. It is super delicious and can be added to salads, cereals, juices and much more. Bee Pollen has been known to improve energy and endurance. Victoria Beckham is a big fan of bee pollen and it's no wonder why!

Maca Powder

A natural and rich source of protein, calcium, iron and phosphorous. Maca powder has numerous health benefits associated with its use. It can help to improve the immune system and balance hormones. It is full of nutrients which can help maintain a healthy body and mind. Add to your smoothie for optimal health, give your lattes and hot chocolates a healthy kick or add a dash to overnight oats, granola or even pancakes.

Cacao

This is another popular ingredient which is bursting with nutrients. It is a highly nutritious food which is a rich source of proteins and minerals. Some of these minerals include calcium, iron and phosphorous. As well as being full of nutrients it is also full of Omega 6 and Omega 9 as well as antioxidants.
